Pros: What makes MarketMuse stand out from the competition is the quality of data it brings back during the research. Unlike other tools, MarketMuse focuses on topics and clusters, not individual keywords. This approach simplifies content writing and helps me create better content faster. I especially enjoy the simplicity of the Optimize application and its Related Topics section. I don’t think there’s another tool with such an amount of data.

Cons: The only thing I dislike is the price. MarketMuse is like the Rolls-Royce of content optimization software. It’s the perfect software many wish to use, yet very few can afford it. Or maybe many do use it, and it’s just me who can’t afford it. Either way, the software is amazing, and I’ll keep using their free version until I’m able to take advantage of their premium offering.

Pros: I like that Synthesia has multiple avatars and is constantly adding new avatars. Even better is that they are adding some of the same avatars with different clothing options to use based on the topic and audience of the video.

Cons: The lip sync needs to improve in some cases. Some of the actors/avatars need a lot of improvement. However, I don’t think there is a single avatar that is perfect with lipsync. I think that the actors need to do a better job of lip formation when they are reading the script while being filmed (certain consonants don’t have appropriate lip formation).

Overall: I use Descript for two main things: 

  1. quick edits of short videos that I produce for our social channels. 
  2. easy transcription of longer recordings e.g. podcast episodes that we typically get professionally edited.

Pros: A Google Docs-like editor for modifying video literally feels like living in the future. I am not a professional video editor, so I find it incredibly useful to my own quick edits and rough cuts – especially for video content for social.

Cons: I occasionally find that it is hard to get it to do exactly what I’m trying to do – which is the downside of such a powerful intuitive interface – if you don’t want to do the obvious thing, it can be challenging to figure out how to work around (e.g. splitting audio and video tracks etc.). But these are minor niggles.

Pros: How fast and easy it is to use. I am a teacher, and I use Beautifu.ai to make literally all the slides I use in the classroom. It is SO much faster than using PowerPoint, plus I get so many compliments from my colleagues AND my students about how gorgeous all of my slides are. I’ve been using it for 3+ years, and it is worth every penny, especially given the access to high-quality stock images.

Cons: My only complaint is that the export to Google Slides does not work consistently. However, this is a minor issue, and one I imagine will be improved in the future.

Pros: Surfer is incredibly refined. It is complete and thorough. There is not a better tool online for rapid, high quality content creation than SurferSEO. Surfer has revolutionized content marketing and nothing will ever be the same.

Cons: I do want the ability to use AI to re-write sections of the final content. I believe this is a function that the developers are working to add. I also think it would be nice if we could add Headings that we want to use to make the content more sophisticated, natural and complete. These things I believe will be coming soon.

Pros: After a lot of extensive research into email tools that integrate with Salesforce, I came upon Reply! Reply is going to be a game changer for our team. Not only is it easy to use (much easier than Salesforce, I must add), the support team is actually really great and responsive. Every time I’ve reached out for assistance, they have responded within 20 minutes and have been friendly and helpful. Additionally, I love the fact that you can be billed per month, which is great for our team and budget.

Cons: You can only send 400 emails per email address per day, which can be a bit of a hold up if you are crafting a large cold email campaign. It would be great if this could increase in the future.

Pros: The reply.io platform is very user-friendly. On-boarding proved to be easy and straightforward. The dashboard provides great insights into our multiple drip campaigns. The platform’s layout makes it very easy to find the information we need. Their support team is one of, if not the best, that I have ever worked with. They almost always instantly reply when I have a question, and they help to get any issues I am experiencing resolved very quickly.

Cons: I can’t think of anything that I dislike about the product. If there would be one thing, it would be nice to be able to export all the responses we get into an Excel document.

Pros: The automated insights are easily digestible. Being able to share boards and competitive intel across teams is great for our remote company and helpful for gathering field marketing knowledge. And best of all is the team behind the scenes who help me get the most out of Crayon. They’re available when I need them and fast to respond.

Cons: For social media, Crayon doesn’t track LinkedIn and currently Twitter intel. This is sort of out of their hands since LinkedIn doesn’t do 3rd party apps, and recent changes at Twitter have followed the same course of action. However, there are good workarounds with Boards that help get LinkedIn and Twitter insights shared across teams.

Pros: The product is easy to use for those who are familiar, less so for those new to tracking influencers and customers online. The plus notes are the various features; they allow you to search for influencers based on what you are looking for.

Cons: Sometimes campaign data is not immediately available, but the help center is ready to help. Perhaps the price is a bit high compared to other software, but it should be pointed out that this one has features that others do not have.
